Spain midfielder Thiago defends David De Gea over criticism

Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcântara has jumped to the defence of Spain teammate David De Gea after recent criticism. The Manchester United goalkeeper went into the World Cup as possibly the best shot-stopper in world football.

It only took one game for people to question that though, as the Spaniard fumbled Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot into his own goal. It hasn’t got much better for him though, and some are starting to lose confidence in him.

Now, Thiago has jumped to his teammate’s defence. ‘It is the most unfortunate position on the pitch but if you have seen David’s games for Manchester United and his other games for Spain you’ll be able to tell he is an outstanding goalkeeper,’ Thiago told a news conference, as quoted by the Daily Mail.  ‘The media also need to take a look at themselves and realise what a great player he is. Look how many times he has been named best goalkeeper in the Premier League. He works like a bloody animal and the confidence we have in him is gigantic.’

Safe to say, no Manchester United fans will be doubting is ability any time soon
