Jorge Sampaoli Hails “True Rebel” Argentina Team After win Over Nigeria

Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli has opened up on his team, calling them “true rebels” after their 2-1 win against Nigeria last night ensured that they secured qualification for the knockout rounds of the World Cup.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 14th minute, but Chelsea star Victor Moses equalised from the penalty spot for Nigeria soon after. However, Marcos Rojo scored in the 86th minute, much to the delight of the Argentina fans and manager, something which Sampaoli revealed showed their mental strength.

“We had a plan for today’s match and I think that the first half went very well. “We were better than Nigeria, and we had ball possession and control over the situation. We also were able to move forward, and had many, many touches from midfield, Sampaoli said, as quoted by ESPN.

“Then after the penalty we got a little nervous and we worried about not being able to go through. We were very happy at end…the players played with their hearts, they are true rebels. They had a very difficult thing to do, and they have achieved a victory which is very important for the future. I think that this will be a good opportunity for the future as well,” he added.

Sampaoli’s side though will not have an easy ride in the round of 16, as they will face Group B toppers France on Saturday in what promises to be an exciting game.
