Liverpool, Everton disappointed on missing goalkeeper

Andriy Lunin has joined Real Madrid, but Liverpool and Everton would have had it otherwise. Both the Merseyside clubs wanted to sign the 19-year-old goalkeeper from Zorya Luhansk in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Everton were interested in securing the services of the Ukraine international goalkeeper this summer according to The Mirror. The same publication reported in May of Liverpool’s interest in the teenager, and claimed on Friday that the Reds made a late bid to sign Lunin before he eventually joined Los Blancos.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper, though, has moved Spanish and European giants Madrid, who defeated Liverpool in the final of the Champions League last season. According to The Daily Mail, Madrid had to pay a transfer fee of £12.3 million in order to secure the services of the youngster.

Both Liverpool and Everton will be disappointed that the youngster decided to move to Madrid, but given that Lunin is a fan of the Spanish giants, as he himself has said – as quoted by FourFourTwo – it was perhaps an inevitability
