Manchester United will have to pay around £50 million to sign Jerome Boateng from Bayern Munich.
United are keen to recruit an experienced figure and Boateng is one of the eight central defenders Jose Mourinho has made his top priority this summer with Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham another well-known target.
Bundesliga giants Bayern have let the 29-year-old know that he is free to leave Bavaria this summer provided that they receive a reasonable fee.
The Germany international has made just 31 appearances last season, 19 in the league, with hamstring injuries a recurring problem.
