Isco kisses David De Gea’s glove after Spain secured victory over Iran

Isco celebrated Spain’s first victory at the World Cup by kissing David De Gea’s glove. Diego Costa’s fortuitous goal in the second half was enough to secure three points against a stubborn Iran side, who had an equaliser ruled out following a VAR review. De Gea had come under fire following the 3-3 draw against Portugal last week as his mistake gifted Cristiano Ronaldo the second goal of his hat-trick. Spain fans had even voted against De Gea keeping his place in goal for Spain’s second Group B game against Iran on Wednesday evening.

But Spain’s newly installed head coach Fernando Hierro kept faith in the Manchester United goalkeeper. And it appears De Gea has the full backing from his Spain teammates as Isco approached him after the game to kiss his glove. ‘It has cost us a lot and we have suffered a lot, the game had a little bit of everything,’ the Real Madrid midfielder said after the win over Iran. ‘They [Iran] were wasting time, they used all the tricks in football.’
