Salah declared fit to face World Cup hosts, Russia

Mohamed Salah has been declared fit to face Russia in Egypt’s second game at the World Cup by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), who confirmed he could have featured in the 1-0 defeat to Uruguay but Hector Cuper refused to risk him. “He was fit to play against Uruguay but the coach did not want to take the risk,” said the EFA.
Liverpool forward Salah recovered from the shoulder injury he sustained in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid just in time to play at the World Cup Salah and was an unused substitute while Marwan Mohsen laboured on his own in attack before Egyptian hearts were broken by Jose Gimenez’s 89th minute header. The EFA believe he is now ready to take on tournament hosts Russia, who won their opening match against Saudi Arabia 5-0, as the Pharaohs need a positive result to stay in contention for the knock-out stage of the tournament.
