#Match Report: Denmark pips Peru in Group D

Summary

Denmark started off their World Cup campaign on a winning note beating Peru by a solitary goal in a Group D match played on Saturday.

Denmark managed to break the deadlock at the 58th minute. Christian Eriksen teed up Yussuf Poulsen on a counter attack and the latter netted the opening goal.  Peru had started off the second half by dominating the clash.

Peru almost restored parity four minutes later but a strong hand from Kasper Schmeichel ensured the goalbound effort from Edison Flores did not get into the net.

In the first half, Christian Cueva missed a penalty, that was awarded after Poulsen fouled Flores. Despite sending  Schmeichel the wrong way the Cueva skyed his kick.
