Rakitic hints at quitting international football after World Cup

Croatia midfielder, Ivan Rakitic has stated that he could consider quitting the national team after eleven years. The Barcelona star who has formed a formidable partnership with Real Madrid’s Luka Modric at the heart of the national team’s midfielder for nearly a decade but has now hinted that it could be time for his to call time on his international football adventure.

“I’ve already got 11 years under my belt. I want to wait and see how the competition pans out, so I don’t know yet if I’m going to carry on. For now, I want to enjoy the World Cup. The desire to turn out in your national team’s colours is always going to be the strongest because it gives you the greatest pride. After Russia, we’ll sit down and see what is for the best,” Rakitic said.

Croatia will open their World Cup campaign against the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday and Rakitic is expected to partner Modric at the heart of his team’s midfield.
