Mikel: Super Eagles will prove critics wrong at the World Cup

Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi is certain that the Nigerian squad have something to prove to their critics at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The Eagles have not been impressive in their just-concluded World Cup warm-up games and have been composed off by numerous people after their unremarkable exhibitions in the friendlies, where they lost to Serbia, England, and the Czech Republic.

Drawn in Group D alongside Argentina, Croatia and Iceland, the Nigerians are the least positioned group by FIFA in the pool. Argentina are positioned fifth, while Croatia who the Super Eagles will play in their Group D opening in the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament this Saturday, are twentieth in the positioning. World Cup debutants Iceland are 22nd while Nigeria are 48th.

“We like where we’ve been placed. We don’t want to be one of the favourite. Mikel said in a video interview.

“I think this will give the team enough motivation to prove critics wrong that we can actually do better than they actually feel.”

Mikel is ready to go to his second World Cup. He has played 83 times for the Super Eagles, netting six times.
