Liverpool confirm Emre Can will leave the club this summer

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can will leave the club after the expiration of his contract at the end of the month, the club has confirmed in a statement announced on Friday. Manager Jurgen Klopp had stated that he would have liked to hold on to the German midfielder, who had been heavily linked to a move to Italian giants Juventus.

Can had joined the Reds in 2014 and made as many as 167 appearances for the club, the last of which came against Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League in May. He had been out of the team due to injury for over two months prior to the match and as a result, he was left out of the Germany team for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

He is now expected to join the Serie A champions, while Klopp has already replaced him with the two signings of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Fabinho from Monaco, both of whom are central midfielders. According to reports, Liverpool have spent a whopping £94 million on the two players, who will certainly bolster the team’s midfield to a great extent.

Another player who was released by the club was full-back Jon Flanagan, who made his debut in 2011 having come through the team’s academy. He has made 51 appearances for the team in six years at the Reds, while also earning a solitary England cap.
