Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio ‘to join Wolves on a free

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly moved closer to securing the signing of Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

Since winning promotion to the Premier League, Wolves have been linked with a number of high-profile names and it appears that Patricio is one of the most likely arrivals at Molineux.

However, the transfer has seemingly been delayed due to a disagreement between the long-serving Lisbon stopper and president Bruno De Carvalho, who allegedly upped upped the asking price once a deal had been close to completion.

That – as well as an attack by a group supporters on the first-team squad – has led to Patricio asking to cancelling his contract and a deadline for the request to be withdrawn has now passed.

According to O Jogo, Wolves are now in a strong position to sign Patricio on a free transfer, rather than for a fee in the region of £18m.

A legal battle could potentially halt the progress of any deal but it appears that Wolves are being proactive when it comes to trying to bring in more competition for John Ruddy.
