Real Madrid have already decided who their next manager would be, according to Murcia president Victor Galvez, and it will be another former player Guti who will take over the reins from Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane led Real to three Champions League titles in a row, and did not lose a single game in the European competition in his nearly three years as manager. But the Frenchman decided to end his time at Real and resigned days after the final against Liverpool, leaving the club stunned and its fans stunned.
There have quite a few names bandied about since then, with Mauricio Pochettino odds-on favourite to take over from Zidane. However, according to Galvez, Madrid are going to go with another ex-player to become the new manager.
“Guti is going to coach Real Madrid, so he cannot coach Murcia,” Galvez said, according to Four Four Two. “He was the coach I wanted here.
“It’s a shame that Zidane didn’t resign two days later. Guti called me to thank me for our interest in him.”
Guti has played over 500 games for Real Madrid and he was preparing himself for a post playing career in management.
Zidane had already given his backing to Guti back in February, even before he thought of resigning from the club.Yes, I see him [as being] capable,” Zidane said. “He is preparing himself to be a coach in the future and it could be at Real Madrid.
“He’s in good shape, he’s someone who is from this club, he’s always been here and one day it will be his dream as well.”
