West Ham star Disappointed for Missing out on World Cup squad

West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has said he is “struggling to hide my disappointment” after missing out on a place in Switzerland’s World Cup squad for this summer’s showpiece.

The midfielder missed out the final 23-man squad that was  after being named in a provisional squad.

The 22-year-old didn’t feature in the Swiss side’s recent friendly games with Spain and England’s group stage opponents Panama but was still heavily tipped to make the trip to Russia.

However, manager Vladimir Petković opted not to include the young Hammer, instead plumping for Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri, Valon Behrami and Fernandes’ cousin, Gelson, in the central midfield spots. Fernandes, along with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and defender Silvan Widmer were the three to miss out.
