Manchester City defender Steph Houghton will miss England Women’s qualifier in Russia as she undergoes surgery on a knee injury.
The long-standing England captain has been withdrawn from coach Phil Neville’s squad for Friday’s match in order to have treatment on the injury this week.
Houghton missed Neville’s first three matches in charge in March this year after pulling out of the SheBelieves Cup with an ankle knock.
