Catholic Bishops resign over sexual abuse claims

A total of 31 Catholic bishops  in Chile have offered to resign to allow investigations for Chile’s sex abuse scandal.

This happened after a three-day emergency summit at the Vatican where they handed over the resignation to Pope Francis.

The  31 active bishops  indicated that they had left the matter to the Holy Father so that he might freely decide for each one of them.Pope Francis summoned the bishops who happen to hail from the same country after receiving a detail report of 2300 pages on sexual abuses.

According Vatican spokesman Greg Burke it is not clear whether Pope Francis will accept the mass resignation.

One of the bishops involved in the scandal is Juan Barros, Bishop of Osorno, whom Francis appointed in 2015 amid an outcry that Barros had known about and covered up abuses.
