Atletico are Europa champions, again!

Antoine Griezmann pulled a man of the match performance scoring twice as Atletico Madrid beat French side Marseille in Lyon to win the Europa League, which was the third time in nine years.

The France attacker opened the scoring after taking advantage of a Andre Zambo Anguissa’s poor touch to calmly slot home, before another calm finish for a second goal later.

Captain Gabi snatched the third goal late on as Atletico again lifted the trophy they also won in 2010 and 2012.

Marseille should have snatched an early lead but forward Valere Germain lostlos early chance, before Griezmann’s lethal finishing allowed Atletico to take control.

Marseille skipper Dimitri Payet, who had been a doubt for match but started, lasted just half an hour before hobbling off in tears.

The French side had its best chance in former Fulham striker Kostas Mitroglou who headed against the post.

Atletico conclude their league season against Eibar on Sunday, and it remains to be seen if that is Griezmann’s last game for the club as he has been heavily linked with Barcelona.
