Residents decided to take immediate action after a contractor working on the Kathageri-Kanyuabora road in Embu East allegedly played monkey games on them.
The contractor was on Wednesday chased away with the villagers claiming that he was using materials that were substandard.
The residents accused Mr. Jim Njamiu of intending to use red soil on the works instead of murram to level the road and compact it to an all-weather road.
“Red soil turns into mud whenever it rains. We wonder why any contractor would think of using soil to grade a road,” Isaac Murimi was quoted as saying by the Stars.
“We pooled resources and unclogged culverts, cleared roadside bushes and covered potholes.” he added.
The contaractor is said to have brought the soil at night claiming that it was murrum for the road works which have been delayed for a long time forcing the local authorities to intervene.
