Oh No! Kenyans At Risk Of Getting These Diseases Due To Flooding

Possible outbreaks of cholera, typhoid and four other diseases have been warned by experts warn due to flooding and bad sanitation. The other four diseases include malaria, chikungunya, dengue fever and Rift Valley fever. Western Kenya, Northeastern and the Coast are at higher risks of the outbreak of these diseases

The UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said that cholera is the main issues because almost 3,000 cases of it were reported in Kenya this year.

“We are monitoring camps to ward off disease outbreaks. We provide purification gadgets in flooded regions,” Abbas Gullet, secretary General at Kenya Red Cross, said.

It has appealed for Sh500 million for more emergency assistance to almost 200,000 flood victims in Western, Northeastern and Coast.

Hypothermia is another cause of concern. Hypothermia includes a fatal drop in body temperature caused by being exposure to cold temperatures for a long duration. This can be caused if children are trapped in floodwaters.
