Wazito FC perfectly poised to end Gor Mahia’s dominance in the Kenyan Premier League

After bagging the National Superleague title, cash-rich Wazito FC now have their eyes on an even bigger prize; The Kenyan Premier League crown. The team owned by the equally charismatic and controversial Don Rico earned promotion to the Kenyan top flight football league after clinching the National Super League with 81 points.

Wazito FC  has been here before but their first ever campaign in the Premier League ended in relegation after finishing last in the 2018 season. However, with a new owner, the team’s finances improved and naturally so did their performances on the pitch too. Fred Ambani’s side won 26 of the 38 matches they played in the National Super League, losing only nine and drawing the other 3.

The Kenyan Premier League is a different beast hower but Wazito already has the experience of playing there as aforementioned. Despite the league being two months away to kick off, the team has already started planning ahead of what is likely to be the most competitive Kenya Premier League season ever!

The management is in talks with targets who are expected to beef up the squad in the coming weeks with rumors claiming that half of the team that won the National Super League are expected to be axed. Gor Mahia midfielder Cersidy Okeyo is very close to joining the team with close links to the club claiming that K’Ogallo skipper Haun Shakava could follow him too.

Of the many expected to depart from the club, former Tusker Fc striker Stephen Owusu could be one of them alongside goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu. The club is now a top pull for the best Kenyan talents and the fans agree too!

With an owner who cares more about winning more than making money, the best talent in the country and with the resources to match any football team in the county, Wazito FC looks set to end Gor Mahia’s strong dominance of the Kenyan Premier League.
