Congratulations Zamalek!! This is all Gor Mahia club could tell their Egyptian rivals.
It was joy and celebration on Sunday when Egyptian giants Zamalek were crowned CAF Confederation Cup champions after defeating Morrocan RS Berkane on penalties.
The tight match which ended 1-1 after the final whistle of the regular time, proceeded to the penalties without going through extra time.
However, the match was marred by high tension and violence, where one Berkane player Omar Namsaoui was booked with a red card when the game was getting stretched in the closing stages.
Namsaoui was given a red card for violent conduct after his out-stretched arm caught Kahraba in the face, with the incident reviewed by the referee on the VAR monitor.
However, the Moroccan outfit managed to hold on in stoppage time and the match went to a penalty shoot-out, where Zamalek converted all five of their spot kicks to Berkane’s three as the Egyptians claim their first ever Confederation Cup title.
It can be remembered that both teams that met in the final faced Gor in the qualification stages.
In April 2, Zamalek was hosted by Gor in CAF Confederation Cup group stages where K’Ogalo thrashed them 4-2. But the Egyptian giants humiliated Gor 4-0 at their home in the second leg in March.
Then came RS Berkane in April 7. The Morrocan side disappointed ‘Sirkal’ before home fans by beating them 2-0 and again 5-1 a week later in Morocco.
Despite the loss, Gor Mahia have come out through their Twitter page to congratulate the Egyptian giants for their win.
