Deputy President William Ruto embarked on a rare venture in his Turkana visit on Monday.
The DP paid a surprise visit to a Turkana family in remote areas of the county, where residents were shocked at the unusual arrival of a political entourage that arrived in a helicopter.
Accompanied by Turkana Governer Josphat Nanok, Ruto jetted into the remote Nayane Aroo area of Lotipiki Plains, where very few people reside.
The residents who were not aware who Ruto is were told that a very powerful man ha just landed.
After an exchange of pleasantries, they were informed that they were the unplanned hosts of Deputy President William Ruto, but they asked who he was.
Local leaders led by Governor Nanok and MP Daniel Epuyo, who had accompanied the DP, quickly informed them that he was Kenya’s second-in-command.
Well, the visit, whose photos made rounds on social media were not totally lauded by everyone, as some criticised them for being a stage-managed PR stunt.
The DP had gone to Turkana on a government mission to spearhead the reconstruction of the Kainuk bridge which will connect West Pokot and Turkana counties.
Great and commendable progress in rehabilitating the Kainuk bridge. Local communities stand to benefit from its completion in terms of increased trading and ease of movement. pic.twitter.com/pKv2PW1S18
