Just a few days after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was grilled , now the the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission officers have deided to go after his secretary Pauline Kahiga.
On Wednesday, the EACC officers stormed office of Nairobi county’s secretary at City Hall as they intensified probe into graft allegations against the county government.
The EACC sleuths were reportedly on a mission to search for critical documents that could help them prove corruption allegations levelled against Governor Mike Sonko’s administration.
The officers were, however, prevented from forcefully arresting the acting county secretary Pauline Kahiga and searching her office by the head of county security and compliance Tito Kilonzi.
Journalists who had already arrived at the venue were also kicked out by the county’s security officers as push and pull between the EACC detectives and the inspectorate officers ensued.
After an hour long scuffle at the usually busy City Hall, Kahiga was eventually driven to the EACC headquarters for grilling. Sources confirmed the anti-graft sleuths also managed to get hold of key documents from the office. Efforts to reach out to the said officer for a comment were unsuccessful as she could not be reached on phone.
Since Governor Sonko took in 2017, the Office of the County Secretary has hardly been occupied substantively, a situation that has raised eyebrows among the county assembly legislators.
The county secretary’s office is said to be the heartbeat of all operations by the executive. The Wednesday afternoon raid came at a time when Sonko’s government was already on the spot over financial malpractices ,abuse office and unexplained wealth accumulation.
