Arrested Nairobi Legislators Handed Heavy Punishments

Two Nairobi legislators arrested last week were released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail or a bond of Ksh 1 million.

The MCAs-Hon. David Mberi, MCA Langata/Karen Ward and Hon. Jared Okoth, MCA Mathare North were arrested and bundled into the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission vehicles.

In the sting operation, one slippery MCA Hon. Abraham Mwangi of Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course Ward took off, never to be seen again.

The two were arrested after intelligence reports indicated that they were receiving bribes from a private developer who had grabbed public land.

The MCAs were part of a committee probing the encroachment of the land on which the developer had put up a building.

The money they received was to induce them to write a favourable report that would let the developer off the hooks.

At the time of the arrests, EACC said that the three had been bribed Sh 1 million by the school’s management.
