Ruto allies link Atwoli to the murder of Form Mp George Muchai

A politician allied to deputy president William Ruto has linked the murder of Former Kabete Mp George Muchai which occurred in Nairobi CBD to Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary-general Francis Atwoli.

Oscar Sudi appears to have backtracked on the murder of the former Mp this week after the trade union boss alleged that Deputy President (DP) William Ruto will not be in the ballot in the 2022 presidential elections.

Oscar Sudi alleges that despite government agencies promising to investigate the matter, nothing is yet to be done.

At about 3 am and 4.30am on February 2015, four people with big guns approached a car at Kenyatta Avenue-Uhuru Highway roundabout in Nairobi and started shooting Killing former Kabete MP George Muchai and two of the MP’s bodyguards and his driver in the incident.

During the hearing at High Court, it was alleged that the manner in which the killing of Muchai took place, it was well planned and executed.

A newspaper vendor who witnessed the shooting told the police that one of the gunmen who led the shooting had a face mask.

After his death Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary-general Francis Atwoli asked the police to unmask the killers of his deputy, George Muchai, to stop speculation that his differences with the slain MP could have led to the death.

Mr Muchai and Mr Atwoli had been engaged in a series of legal battles prior to the legislator’s death.

Mr Muchai had alleged that there had been rampant embezzlement, misappropriation and mismanagement of worker’s deductions which translated into Sh 190 billion.

Muchai who was also Atwoli’s deputy was asking the Labour Relations court to direct the registrar of trade unions to audit the accounts of COTU.

Francis Atwoli together with other COTU officials were accused by three MPs including Moses Kuria (Gatundu), Francis Waititu (Juja) and Alice Ng’ang’a for having killed the Kabete MP.

Legislators who went to the funeral home included Gatundu North MP Kigwa Njenga, Kipipiri MP Samuel Gichingi, Ruiru MP Esther Gathogo, Juve Njomo, MP for Kiambu, and Kiambu Women Representative Anne Gathechu.

They all alleged that Mr Muchai’s death was a clear assassination whose execution was planned.

The battle for control of millions of shillings and property as well as Cotu elections that were scheduled for 2016 is believed to have been at the centre of the standoff between Mr Atwoli and Mr Muchai.
