Rangers manager Steven Gerrard weighed into Manchester United’s controversial penalty against Paris Saint Germain saying that rules are rules and must be respected.
Gerrard believes that that it would have been an injustice had they been denied the dramatic last-gasp penalty.
United managed to overturn a 2-0 deficit defeat at home to beat PSG 3-1 and advance to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. The game was poised at 2-1 in added time with United handed a penalty after Presnel Kimpembe handled the ball and after a long check on VAR the penalty stood and Marcus Rashford fired the Red Devils to the next round with his spot kick.
The Liverpool legend insisted that the referee was right to hand United a penalty, “The rules are the rules and we all have to expect that and respect it as well, because the rules are not going to change, certainly during the season. Listening to some of the officials commenting on it, is very interesting because they say the penalty decision was correct and the referee was correct.”
