Ander Herrera was magnificent in the 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge where he played in a less orthodox role.

He said after the final whistle: ”We did things right. Second half we should’ve kept the ball more but we didn’t concede. That’s fantastic, the way everyone defended. I would like to save a word for Scott [McTominay], Andreas or Alexis, the way he walked into the game, that shows a lot for him.

”So we are very happy with everyone, we are in a very good moment but now Wolves [next in the FA Cup], one of the teams we didn’t want to face and even less so away but we go for it.”

Herrera scored from Paul Pogba’s cross as he explained why he even was in that zone: ”He (Pogba) has the quality, he can make this kind of crosses. Today I played in a more offensive role because the manager asked me for it. He told me they struggle in one of those zones around Jorginho and I did it.

”I had a chance before with a shot but Kepa saved and then I had that header but the cross was fantastic.”

He added: ”The manager didn’t want me that much in the build-up. He told me it was enough with Nemanja. Even Kieran [McKenna] told me I was going to score. They had a good vision.”
