A daring Kisumu man has been charged before court with kidnapping a police officer.
According to the charge sheet, the suspect, Gordon Ochieng, is accused of abducting Police Sergeant Godfrey Itur in Kisumu town on November 30 with an intention of harming him.
“Ochieng kidnapped Godfrey Itur and planned to subject him to grievous harm,” a part of the charge sheet reads.
While appearing before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar, Ochieng denied the charges which also include inciting the public to violence, causing malicious damage to a police car and obstruction of motorists.
The suspect allegedly incited the public at the Jua Kali area in Kisumu town by telling them to stone and burn police officers who wanted to arrest him.
He is also accused of vandalizing a police vehicle and blocking other road users from accessing Kisumu-Kakamega road by stopping his car in the middle of the road.
“With others not before the court willfully and unlawfully damaged a white Toyota land cruiser white in colour, the property of the National Police Service,” read the charges.
He was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 with his case expected to be mentioned on December 6 and heard on January 9, 2020.
In February 2019, three men; Reuben Ochieng’, Dennis Omondi and Jared Onyango were charged before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi with kidnapping a police officer.
They were accused of kidnapping Police Constable Robert Nyange at Railways matatu terminus in Nairobi after the officer stopped the suspects, who defied and jumped into a car. One of the suspects pulled the officer into the car before they sped off.
The trio faced a second count of assaulting the officer by beating him up and causing him actual bodily harm.
