Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday subtly hinted to President Uhuru Kenyatta to honour his pledge to retire come 2022.
DP Ruto, in a birthday message to Uhuru as he turns 58, said he looks forward to their retirement plans.
“Happy birthday to my friend and Boss H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta. You are a great inspiration to me, Jubilee leadership and millions of Kenyans as the youngest President we’ve ever had. As we age, I look forward to what we agreed on to do when we retire. Remember? Ubarikiwe mpaka Ushangae!” Ruto said.
The comments on Uhuru’s retirement come amid a growing distrust among a section of the political class allied to DP Ruto that the Head of State is planning to extend his term by introducing new laws through the Building Bridges Initiative.
Uhuru, however, has publicly declared that he will go home when his term ends in 2022.
“The BBI is not intended to create a position for me after 2022, it’s meant to dodge violence during future elections, don’t fall for deceits)” he said during the recent launch of Phase 2A of the Standard Gauge Railway.
Below are reactions to DP Ruto’s birthday message to Uhuru.
