Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has showered much praise on John Obi Mikel who retired from international football. Mikel announced on Thursday that t is time to bow out and leave the chance to young emerging players.
On his verified Instagram page, Mike Obi said, at the age of 32, it was time for him to bow out of the team and let the young ones take over.
Sharing a photo of himself in the national jersey, Mikel Obi wrote, “Egypt is a country where I’ve started and have finished my national career.
Upon his announcement, Rohr, during an interview said that; “I’m happy that he could part in this #AFCON2019 to finish his wonderful career with a bronze medal. He gave all the best for his country. He’s an example for all football players in Nigeria.”
Mikel started representing his country in 2003 for the Under-17 World Cup but made his senior international debut in 2006. Since then, he made 94 appearances for Nigeria and scored.
The 32-year-old retired just a day after clinching the bronze in the 2019 AFCON.
