Good morning,
Raila Odinga, leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has suggested a potential successor for the party leadership if he secures the chairmanship of the African Union Commission (AUC).
However, his suggestion contrasts with recent remarks made by his wife, Ida Odinga, who endorsed the current ODM chairman, John Mbadi, during a public event in Homa Bay.
Raila’s apparent change in stance regarding his succession plan is seen as a strategic move to mitigate tensions between his two deputies, former Mombasa governor Hassan Ali Joho and ex-Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
In other news, Joseph Irungu, known as ‘Jowie’, awaits sentencing today after being found guilty of Monica Kimani’s murder, as ruled by Lady Justice Grace Nzioka on February 9.
Jacque Maribe, also charged, was acquitted as the judge deemed murder an unsuitable charge against her.
