Over the weekend, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua received overwhelming support from UDA leaders from the Mount Kenya region during a fundraising event in Murang’a.
The event witnessed a rare unity, drawing over 100 MPs from Kenya Kwanza and Jubilee parties to emphasize the critical call for unity within the Mt Kenya region and leaders underscored its importance for future prosperity.
And as a signal to the end to the politics of succession that had arisen following a dispute with Murang’a leaders, who had endorsed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as President William Ruto’s running mate in 2027, the event was the unanimous proclamation of Gachagua as the undisputed Mount Kenya kingpin.
Gachagua likened himself to a mushroom that sprouted to take charge of Mt Kenya’s leadership. He accused the retired President, Uhuru Kenyatta, of leaving the government without nurturing people to succeed him as the Mt Kenya kingpin.
This comes just two months after the DP said he had no desire to be recognized as the kingpin of the Mt Kenya region and insisted that he was satisfied with his role as a Deputy President, urging those interested in the Mt Kenya kingship post to go for it.
