Kuria Clashes With Another CS Over Key Event; Uhuru’s Mega Project Ruto is Set to Commission in Kisumu & Ruto’s PS Picked Over CS To Lead Meeting In Italy

Good morning,

Just a week ago, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda won the joint bid to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament, and already jitters have emerged in Kenya on where some of the matches should be played at.

On Sunday, Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o and his Kakamega counterpart Fernandes Barasa issued a joint statement calling out on the government for excluding the Azimio strongholds of Nyanza and Western regions in the hosting plan.

The government reportedly plans to host the Afcon games in Nairobi and Eldoret, a move that irked the two Azimio governors terming it discriminatory.

The two argued that the Nyanza and Western regions are the bedrock of Kenyan football. They warned that the government’s decision to host the games in Eldoret is likely to have a negative effect including fans keeping off the stadiums.

They further claimed that Eldoret is known as an athletics hub, but not known for having a football culture, a move they predict will result in empty stadiums with little impact.

The two county chiefs lamented that the regions had been denied a chance to host the Afcon games because they are opposition strongholds.

Do you think the government is intentionally excluding Azimio regions from playing host to this continental tournament?
