World, Local Leaders Laud President for Eloquence During City Summit; Jalang’o Reacts to Being Expelled by Odm: “No Trial Too Heavy to Lift” & Inside the Multi-billion Dollar Deals at Nairobi Climate Summit

Good morning,
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has taken decisive action against members who defied its constitution by aligning themselves with the ruling party, Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Stamping its authority, ODM expelled several Members of Parliament (MPs) and a Senator who had ventured into an alliance with the ruling party.

The move to tame the rebels follows a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader Raila Odinga.

The MPs—Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Felix Odiwuor (Lang’ata)—as well as Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, are affected members of the party. In contrast, others including Esther Passaris were fined and asked to write an apology letter in seven days.

However, the saga is far from over, as the ousted members will not go down without a fight and are expected to appeal their removal through the Political Party’s Dispute Tribunal.

For starters, removing party members and asking them to seek fresh mandates has been a hard nut to crack in the past and such cases have either dragged or leaders reinstated.

With little to no success in removing leaders from political parties’ registers, do you think expelling them will help instil discipline and loyalty?
