Inside Ruto, US Senator Chris Coons Scheduled Today’s Morning Meeting; What Raila, US Senator Chris Coons Agreed on Ahead of Today’s Talks & How Top Government Officials and Close Allies of Uhuru Played Raila

Good morning,

US Senator Chris Coons, famous for his role in brokering a 2018 political agreement, visited the country and met with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

They agreed that both sides should avoid taking extreme stances during discussions to swiftly address various issues. These talks will be overseen by former Nigerian President Obasanjo, despite objections from the camp supporting Ruto.

This development follows Raila Odinga’s rejection of a potential political agreement with Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government.

The Azimio la Umoja Coalition presented five key topics for discussion, including the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), promoting inclusivity in national matters, upholding democracy, and tackling police brutality.

On the other side, Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza faction is focused on IEBC reforms and establishing the roles of the official opposition leader and prime cabinet secretary.

After meeting Raila Odinga, Senator Chris Coons is reportedly scheduled to meet with President William Ruto to lay the groundwork for the ongoing talks.
