Thousands Throng Nyayo Stadium Ahead of Moi’s Memorial Service (Photos)

Thousands of Kenyans from all walks of life on Tuesday morning thronged Nyayo Stadium to attend the late Retired President Daniel arap Moi’s funeral service.

The majority of netizens had taken their seats by 8 am, the very time they were expected to have settled as per the government directive.

By 8 am Nyayo Stadium was packed and gates were already closed.

The state of the art funeral service came a day after a three-day viewing exercise of the late Moi’s body at Parliament buildings had come to an end.

Members of the public begun viewing the Retired President’s body on Saturday morning.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were among the first to view the late Moi’s body at Parliament buildings before the exercise was opened for the rest of Kenyans.

Former President Mwai Kibaki also viewed his predecessor’s body on Sunday where he was pictured in public after a long period of time.

The viewing exercise came to an end on Monday evening with the ODM leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka being the notable dignitaries that paid their last respect to the late Moi’s body.

At least 7 heads of state and 18 delegations have confirmed their attendance.

Moi’s body will be wheeled to Nyayo Stadium draped in National Flag and under tight security owing to his status.

Moi passes on Tuesday 4th February at Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with an undisclosed illness.

His death came nearly 18 years after he had peacefully handed power to the Retired President Mwai Kibaki.

He served Kenya for 24 years as President after taking over from founding president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and 10 years as a Vice President.

The interdenominational funeral service will be led by Retired AIC Bishop Silas Yego.

It comes a day before his internment at Kabarak home.

Moi will be interred beside his late wife Lena Moi, in accordance with his wish.
