On Tuesday, the Coast Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakub, through the DPP, sought to withdraw an assault case against the governor during his dramatic arrest in Voi last month.

Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi is expected to make the ruling on the matter on Wednesday, January 22, 2019, at 9 am at Voi Law Courts.

According to the office of the DPP, the complainant is no longer interested in pursuing the matter.

This comes even as the governor was preparing to appear before the Voi court on Tuesday to be charged with assaulting a police officer.

The charge sheet earlier presented before the court indicated the governor was accused of assaulting a police officer in the due execution of his duties contrary to section 103 of the National Police Service Act 2011.

He was accused of kicking the Coast Regional Commander on the thigh during his arrest at Ikanga airstrip.

The incident occurred on December 6 last year as the governor was being arrested at a roadblock in Voi over graft allegations at City Hall.
