Waititu’s Fights Back to Safeguard His Governorship Position

Kiambu Governor, Ferdinand Waititu, has filed a petition against his Deputy Governor, James Nyoro, over jurisdiction of powers.

The embattled governor in his petition accused Nyoro of discharging governor’s duties and wants courts to also issue orders allowing him to access his office.

During the recently concluded Kibra by-election, Nyoro was present at the thanksgiving ceremony held in Kibra in his capacity as a politician and acting governor of Kiambu County.

This ostensibly added to his latest woes and frustrations the governor was coming across recently.

Waititu woes began over two months ago when the High Court upheld a ruling that barred him from office over a graft case.

Justice Ngenye Macharia described the governor as “morally ill” while saying he must stay away until the case is determined.

Governor Waititu, his wife Susan Wangari and eight county officials faced corruption charges over the irregular award of tenders worth Sh588 million.

Anti-Corruption Court magistrate Lawrence Mugambi however, granted Mr Waititu Ksh15 million cash bail but imposed tough conditions on the fiery politician and his co-accused.

When he was released from police custody on July 30, Mr Waititu did not walk back to his corner office in Kiambu town as the court ordered him to keep off.

What followed after was politicians and friends allied to him in the county also faced impeachment from their colleagues.

In October Members of the Kiambu County Assembly impeached Sports CEC Karungo Wa Thangwa, a close ally and confidant of besieged area Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

The MCAs accused the Sports and Youth CEC of mismanaging Ksh100 million allocated to his ministry.

Thang’wa appeared to have fallen victim to the new drive by the acting Kiambu Governor James Nyoro who was keen to clean the county of Waititu’s influence.

Thang’wa was among two CECs who came out in support of Finance CEC Francis Kigo whose vehicle was withdrawn.
