BREAKING: SportPesa Issues New Letters to Employees

Status quo remains at SportPesa as the betting firm issues more inflicting letters to their employees.

From a closed door meeting conducted on Friday November 1, the firm gave out redundancy letters to their over 400 staff members following their exit from Kenyan business last month.

The redundancy documents is in line with the Kenyan law which follows termination letters issued to the employees on October 2.

One of the employees has confirmed to Opera News the reception of the document further explaining that  they will be paid two months salaries and 15 days’ pay for every year according to the law.

The letter comes with a one-month notice as well.

“We received invite letters for this meeting yesterday (Thursday, October 31), and about 400 of us were present. The meeting has just ended and I can confirm that we’ve been issued with redundancy letters, meaning our services are no longer viable here.”

“We’ve also been issued a one-month notice which comes with payments for the months of October and November, according to the Kenyan law.

“Every employee will also be given 15-day pay yearly for all the years one has been employed at SportPesa,” the former SportPesa employee who sought anonymity said.

In the meeting, SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri asserted that they’re still in talks with the government over tax-impasse, and that their fingers are still crossed for a possible return.

Prior to their exit from Kenya, SportPesa had become the most trusted betting firm and offered financial support to sports fraternity across board. They were the sponsors of Kenyan Premier League, top football clubs Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, and many other sports genres in the company.
