Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is breathing a sigh of relief over their narrow win against visiting Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

The Reds came from behind to take their lead gap to six points clear thanks to Jordan Henderson and Mohammed Salah second half goals. Harry Kane had etched his name on the score-sheet for Spurs in the first minute of the match.

Speaking afterwards, Klopp admitted he was a bit scared when Heung-Min Son came closer with an sublime attempt which could have equalized for the visitors. But he says his keeper Alisson Becker saved the second half situation.

“Their chance was just a long kick, not even a pass. Dejan (Lovren) misjudged it, thinks he can let it bounce and Son is away and Ali made a really special save. He didn’t touch the ball but he was so big in that moment he made life really difficult for Son,” Klopp said.

Son had spent much of the game unsuccessfully attempting to quell the forward runs of the outstanding Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“That is what we thought that they would try and do it like that,” said Klopp. “But I think Son was pretty busy defending Trent, he was constantly on his bike.

“Trent put in some really good crosses to be honest. But that’s what they did. In the last seven or eight minutes, we wanted to control the game but after that endurance, it is kind of a rhythm.

“We brought Joe and Trent a little bit higher but it didn’t really help as we couldn’t defend the diagonal balls.

“It is a big challenge in football, playing a game like this and being only one goal up and Tottenham change completely to offence, it can get a bit scrappy.

“Ali had two proper saves in that period. I’m completely fine with the game,” the manager explained.

Liverpool have garnered 28 points from 10 matches so far.
