Students Recuperating After Suicide Attempts

A student from Itembe Secondary school in Bomet County is currently recuperating at Tenwek Mission hospital after he attempted suicide Monday.

The form two student is said to have attempted suicide using a binding wire he allegedly picked from a construction site within the school compound.

Fellow students who feared being named said he was mentally sick and was found hanging by students who had gone to the laboratory for chemistry practical lesson as he remained in the classroom.

According to one of the teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity, the student has been to a mental hospital in Nakuru where he had earlier received treatment that temporarily stabilized his condition.

In another incident, a girl aged 13 is also fighting for her life in the hospital after ingesting a chemical suspected to be a pesticide.

The girl, who is a pupil at Chebulu primary school, is said to have rushed to hospital after being found lying unconscious at her home.

Her classmates were alerted when she did not turn up for school, prompting them to launch her search.

She was later found at home and was rushed for medical attention following discovery of empty bottle labelled to contain pesticide used against termites and related pests.

Bomet Central Police Commander Musa Imamai Omari has confirmed the two incidents saying police will issue statements after investigations.
