The Moi Sports Cneter-Kasarani in Nairobi is Kenya’s only fully functioning FIFA and CAF recognizsd Stadium. The 60,000 seater-stadium has been hosting Gor Mahia and Bandari United’s CAF Confederations Cup and Champions League fixtures this season.

Interestingly, the stadium alongside the Ruaraka stadium are the only two that are eligible to host Kenya Premier League matches in Nairobi. As a result, the playing surface is in a bad state as witnessed during last weekend’s Harambee Stars friendly match with East African neighbors Uganda.

The Stadium Management at Kasarani charges Kenya Premier league clubs Kshs 30,000 for upkeep when they host their matches there and also takes a share of the gate collections. However, video footage taken from the Stadium on Sunday during the Harambee Stars and Uganda Cranes match has revealed that it is not just the playing surface that is in a bad state.

The terraces are littered with beer and water cans that seem to have been there for over months. There is even a Marijuana plant growing underneath one of the sitting blocks. Check out the video below.

The video demonstrates just how badly run Kenya’s National Stadiums are. The Nyayo National Stadium has been closed for the past two and a half years to undergo renovations but so far, nothing has been done yet. City Stadium has also not been in use for close to five years for the same reasons.
