Secretary Digital, Innovations & Diaspora Communications, Dennis Itumbi’s tweet comparing the actions of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to that of Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro landed him in trouble with a section of Kenyans on Twitter.
Itumbi compared Odinga’s swearing-in as the people’s president on January 30 this year, which he termed illegal, to yesterday’s arrest of Nyoro for causing trouble in a Church in Muranga County.
According to Itumbi, the police expressed bias in handling the two which shows ‘there’s justice for the rich and that for the hustler”.
He noted that Raila swore himself in as the People’s President yet the government never took any action against him.
On the other hand, he said the government moved with speed to arrest Ndindi, who clashed with nominated MP Maina Kamanda, at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu.
Nyoro had demanded to be recognised as Kiharu MP during the service but Kamanda turned down his request. This led to the chaos that made the service terminate prematurely.
The police would later issue a warrant for the MP’s arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.
Police officers, on Monday night, finally arrested the MP after resisting earlier attempts on Sunday night after sneaking out of Royal Media Services offices, where he had gone for a show at Inooro TV.
While Raila was not arrested after his swearing-in, his close lieutenants, Ruaraka MP Kagwang and Canada-based lawyer, Miguna Miguna, faced the government’s wrath for overseeing the oathing ceremony.
Kagwang was arrested a day after the event while Miguna was later deported to Canada.
Here are some of the Kenyans reactions on Twitter:
I once told you if you have real men balls in between your legs go vie for village elders position in your village, Raila isn’t your league don’t eat what you can’t swallow, Kitaeleweka being in opposition is a call and a sacrifice na bado.
