Fake Police Officers Steal Ksh72 Million From G4S

Thieves masquerading as police officers on Thursday reportedly stole Ksh72 million from G4S personnel in Nairobi.

According to reports, the thieves also made away with money from an ATM machine belonging to the Standard Chartered Bank in Nairobi West.

The information on the unfolding incident still remains scanty. More to follow shortly.

This is not the first time money has been lost under controversial circumstances in Kenya.

In April 2019, Barclays Bank of Kenya lost huge sums of money after four of its ATM machines were broken into in Nairobi.

In the three-day ordeal, a total of Sh11.2 million was stolen from the ATMs in what appears to be an organised theft ring.

In 2013, the courier hit the headlines after the employees of Cooperative Bank, G4S workers and Administration Police officers allegedly colluded to steal over Sh80 million while on transit.

The money was lost after a Securicor van transporting the money from the bank’s Maua branch in Meru to its Koinange branch in Nairobi was allegedly hijacked.

Co-op Bank in the papers filed in court alleged that G4S had failed to pay the stolen cash despite the bank issuing a number of demand notices.
