The new Dandora Stadium in Nairobi is nearing completion with only minor work left before its officially unveiled.

The construction team is putting in the final touches with the stadium expected to reach the required FIFA standards, Govenor Mike Sonko has said.

Its completion will be highly welcomed especially from Nairobi based football teams who are having to rely on just one pitch; the Kasarani National stadium. Nyayo Stadium has been closed for close to two years for renovations while City Stadium has not been active for close to five years now!

Over-reliance on Kasarani Stadium and the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos has had adverse effects on the playing turf and can easily cause injuries to players.

Ahead of the 2013 General Election, the Jubilee Party promised it would construct nine modern stadiums, but in 2019, there is no sign any of the nine would be ready.

County governments have been forced to renovate existing ones like Bukhunga Stadium in Kakamega to at least spur sports in their regions.

In Machakos, the Kenyatta Stadium has been the favourite and most readily available for major sporting events especially football matches.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko boasts of the news Dandora stadium which has state-of-the-art equipment which when complete, will be a darling to many users.

It has one of the best seats and dugout for players. The staircases are also magnificent as are the roofs.

Other facilities like restrooms are aso in good condition and one only hopes they will be well maintained for the good of the game.
