Standing at the heart of Western Kenya, Kakamega county which is largely dominated by the members of the Luyha community is fast losing its glorious past thanks to uncouth behaviour that is exposing the county in bad light.
The community’s undying love for Flying Vegetables (Chicken) and Ugali which was once considered Luyha’s pride is now turning into a curse thanks to a series of rampant deaths in the region caused by food-related conflicts!
Eshirembe village in Kakamega County is once again hitting the headlines after an elderly man, Mr John Makokha, 78, killed his son Habil Amunza 38, by slashing him with a panga for allegedly stealing and selling family maize.
It is reported that the two had been leading a quarrelsome life since Makokha’s wife died in January 2019 leaving the two behind
Surprisingly, the victim, Amunza is said to have also killed a neighbour’s son nine years ago. According to the neighbour, Mr. Nandwa, the late Amunza hit his age mate son with a stool while playing killing him instantly but was later released from police custody under unclear circumstances.
Amunza’s death has however caused discussions online with many Kenyans wondering what had become of the Kakamega residents who are frequently hitting the headlines on deaths only related to food.
