Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko has set a Ksh.100,000 price tag for any information that will lead to the arrest of burglars captured in a circulating video robbing an M-Pesa shop.
Posting on his Facebook account the obviously agitated City Boss threatened to take down any gang in the City that has been vowed to earn a living by terrorizing Nairobi residents.
In the video, two armed thugs storm into the shop and try reaching for the money box. The shop operator tries escaping but the thugs break the glass and gain entry to his desk.
Sonko went on to defend ‘Hessy’, a group of crime busters who are affiliated Facebook accounts with pseudo names Hessy wa Dandora, Hessy wa Kayole and Hessy wa Huruma, arguing that it is unfortunate people are against them while they are making efforts to do away with the gangsters
“Alafu MA hessy wakifanya kazi yao you will hear people complaining ati mavijanaa wanamalizwa bure. I’m appealing to anybody who can identify these burukenges and who shall give information that will assist the police arrest them to report to the nearest police station or text 0722886600 or call 0722156700. A reward of 100k shall be given to anyone with useful information, ” read part of his post.
However, a good number of his followers now argue that the video surfaced online months or years before and that it was captured on an M-Pesa shop based in Nairobi’s Huruma Estate.
What is not yet known is whether any action has so far been taken against the burglars.
