Harambee Stars loss to Algeria in the team’s Group C opener at the Africa Cup Of Nations was not unexpected or a surprise. The North African giants were the favorites heading into the match and it proved so in the final result. What was rather surprising was the manner in which Sebastian Migne’s boys meekly surrendered especially in the first half.

Kenya was outclassed but that was as a result of many factors one being a few players simply not being up to the task. Below we examine some of the players who were poor against Algeria and should not start against in the match against Algeria.

Aboud Omar

The left-back simply failed to live with the Algerians pace and trickery all match. He looked off the pace and lacking in match sharpness which was rather surprising to watch as he has been one of Harambee Stars best performers in the recent past.

Omar was booked as early as in the 13th minute for a reckless challenge just outside the box after he had carelessly given the ball away. His misery was compounded when he turned the ball into his own net from a Riyad Mahrez shot late in the first half for Algeria’s second goal.

Eric Ouma is just as gifted as Omar and it would be no surprise to see the former Gor Mahia maestro start against Tanzania.

Dennis Odhiambo

A large part of the reason why Kenya was outclassed by the Algerians was that the midfield pair of Dennis Odhiambo and Victor Wanyama just did not click. The never got a hold of the game with Dennis Odhiambo, in particular, enduing a very poor night. It was his careless tackle inside the box that earned the Algerians a penalty which they scored from.

Midfield is a key area for any team and Sebastian Migne might opt for a change in the Tanzania match. Should he decide so, Dennis Odhiambo might be the candidate.
