Are Kenya gospel musicians deep in slumber?
I really miss those days when gospel music was the order of the day. Those days when gospel gigs had the biggest crowds. The days when gospel musicians were really praising God with music.
The gospel industry was so enormous so much so that secular artists were almost unheard of, no one even cared about them or what they were up.
The biggest song in the country at any given time was from the likes of M.O.G, Benachi, Daddy Owen, Gloria Muliro, Eunice Njeri, Mercy Masika.
I don’t know what happened but somewhere along the way, the secular industry overtook took over. We can debate about this until they come home but deep down you also know that this is a fact.
The gospel music is not what it was five to ten years and this begs the question, are Kenyan gospel musicians asleep, did they get too comfortable or are they just lazy?
Gospel industry has been full of scandals and controversies, this year we have witnessed the unfolding one scandal after another, exposing a web of deceit, sex scandals, controversial lifestyle and promiscuous ‘born again’ who deny responsibility after making a lady pregnant.
Well-placed sources in the industry reveal that it is a hustle like any other in which man must survive at all costs with the scam and scandals in the industry drawing in established names and upcoming ones as well.
The recent scandal in which DK Kwenye Beat and Hopkid admitted engaging in a threesome with a Nakuru lady who claims she was infected with herpes and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is just a tip of the iceberg with multiple sources confirming that a lot going on behind the scenes.
Whenever their actions come to light, the disgraced gospel artistes quickly shift the blame to the Devil and seek to redeem themselves by claiming that the evil was done during the dark days before they had an encounter with Jesus.
