Police have launched a manhunt to recover yet another gun just days after officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recovered a gun stolen from a cop based in Utawala.

Police reports confirmed that a firearm belonging to Bungoma Central Sub-county police commander was stolen from him while he was sleeping in his house.

The police boss is said to have been sleeping when the daring burglars broke into his house at around 3 am.

The burglars would proceed to the cop’s bedroom where they ransacked the house stealing his gun loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm Ammunition.

They also made away with some Sh3500 in cash and an array of other assorted items valued at Sh44,3350.

It was after the robbers had gone when one of the police commander’s children came waking his father that the door was wide open when Mr David Kandie (Bungoma Central Sub-County Police Commander) was jolted into action.

The officer would make frantic attempts to reach Chwele Police station which is barely some 200 metres away.

All his three phones were stolen during the night burglary.

This comes hot on the heels of another incident where a DCI officer based in Utawala was drugged and robbed of his gun by a lady identified as Lydia Njeri.

Ms Njoki was convicted of drugging DCI officer Peter Kilemi and stealing his Czeska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Police would later trace Njeri to his house from where she disclosed that she had thrown the gun in a pit latrine in her compound.

The gun was recovered in one piece while Njeri was sentenced to seven years in jail after she admitted to committing the crime.

Police in Bungoma, however, have vowed they must recover the gun even as the burglars are said to be on the run.

“We must recover that gun and our officers are pursuing useful leads on the incident. They have launched a manhunt for the suspects who are on the run. My assurance to the public we will do everything possible to ensure that the gun is recovered and in safe hands,” said Ms Ann  Ngetich- Western Regional Police Commander.
