How man used Uhuru’s name to steal 400-acre land

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name has been dragged into a  400-acre land  scandal involving a Nairobi-based family and a businessman.

Accoding to reports, the victim has sought the intervention of the United States to solve a 49-year land row with a man claiming to be President Kenyatta’s relative.

The Daily Nation reports that Robert Lloyd Humphrey and his wife Margaret Wamaitha Humphrey reached out to the US envoy Kyle McCarter to help them resolve a dispute over a 400-acre parcel of land located in Nairobi.

Nicholas Nzioka Ndambuki, a businessman who claims to be President Kenyatta’s nephew, also lays claim to the property.

The Humphreys claim that they acquired the land located in Mlolongo on October 1st, 1970 from Beacon Ranch Limited for Sh30,000 and have been living there since then.

Beacon Ranch is the predecessor of the Kenya Meat Commission and held a number of assets, including land.

They claim that they took a loan from the Agricultural Finance Corporation to purchase the property.

But 49 years later, the land is now the subject of a battle between the Humphreys and businessman Nicholas Nzioka Ndambuki.

Mr. Ndambuki has allegedly been claiming ownership of the property despite the National Land Commission, through a task force constituted in 2011 by former Security Minister George Saitoti, declaring that the parcel belonged to the Humphreys.

The publication noted that Ndambuki disowned a family that raised him and claims that his real mother, Wanjiku Kahore is President Uhuru’s sister.

He was reportedly charged with forging ownership documents for the 400-acre contested land in 2014. is attempts to have the case thrown out were dismissed by the Machakos High Court.

Despite the National Land Commission and the 2011 task force set up by former Interior minister George Saitoti to look into irregular land allocations in and around Athi River holding that the Humphreys own the property, the saga has raged on.

Ambassador McCarter reportedly promised to follow up the matter and established why the late Saitoti task force’s recommendations were not implemented.
